WebMCP provides a browser widget that website owners embed to expose their site as an MCP server. This allows end-users to connect their AI assistants directly to website tools without sharing API keys, using any model they prefer. The implementation supports MCP clients including Claude, Cursor, Cline, and Windsurf. The project originated as a personal proposal but has since evolved into a formal W3C specification effort.
