A Markdown vault with an AI agent that waits for your say-so

Lumina Note keeps your notes as plain Markdown on disk but embeds an AI agent that can reorganize, summarize, and connect ideas across the entire vault only when you explicitly allow it.

What it does

Lumina Note is an Electron 41 desktop app built around a local folder of plain Markdown files. It gives you live preview editing, WikiLinks, backlinks, a knowledge graph, PDF support, and flashcards, alongside an embedded agent—powered by the opencode SDK—that can draft notes, reorganize folders, summarize PDFs, and surface connections across your whole vault. The agent only acts with your permission, and you can route it through local Ollama instances, your own API keys, or an optional Lumina Cloud license.

The interesting bit

Instead of tacking a chatbot onto the sidebar, Lumina bakes the opencode agent into the app runtime so it can read, write, and restructure files as a first-class citizen. The vault stays ordinary Markdown on disk, meaning you can abandon the app entirely and your notes remain perfectly readable in any text editor.

Key highlights

  • Plain Markdown on disk with no proprietary lock-in; back up or migrate with standard file tools.
  • Embedded opencode agent that operates across the entire vault to draft, reorganize, summarize, and cross-reference notes.
  • Flexible model routing through OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, DeepSeek, Ollama, OpenRouter, or other OpenAI-compatible endpoints.
  • Knowledge graph and bidirectional WikiLinks to visualize relationships between notes.
  • Developer-preview plugin system and separate mobile companions for iOS and Android.

Caveats

  • The plugin system is still a developer preview, so extending the app is experimental.
  • AI assistance requires external setup: you must supply your own API key, run Ollama locally, or use a Lumina Cloud license.

Verdict

Worth a look if you want a local-first Markdown vault with an embedded agent that can draft, reorganize, and summarize your notes using local models or your own API keys. Give it a pass if you need a mature plugin marketplace or prefer your note apps without a Chromium wrapper.
