What it does

FOLib is a self-hosted artifact repository that wants to replace your patchwork of Nexus, Harbor, and PyPI mirrors. It speaks 23+ package formats — from npm and Maven to Cangjie cjpm, OHPM, and Helm — and adds AI model registries (HuggingFace, Ollama, ModelScope) to the same stack. Spring Boot 3.x under the hood, Vue.js on top, deploys via Docker or Helm.

The interesting bit

The MCP (Model Context Protocol) support is the eyebrow-raiser: it exposes dependency graphs, vulnerability data, and license metadata so an AI agent can query your supply chain, suggest fixes, or automate artifact promotions. That’s not a feature you see in legacy binary repos.

Key highlights

  • 23+ package formats including Docker/OCI with layer-level resume and nerdctl/crictl/podman clients
  • AI model proxy/sync for HuggingFace, Ollama, ModelScope; private upload and staged promotion
  • MCP context protocol for agent-driven queries, vulnerability remediation, and sync automation
  • WebDAV mount for large-file cloud-native workflows
  • GPLv3 with explicit commercial-sale prohibition; enterprise edition exists

Caveats

  • README is Chinese-first; English version exists but may lag
  • GPL3 anti-commercial clause is unusual — check if your use case qualifies before building around it
  • Default admin password in the quick-start is literally folib@v587; rotate it

Verdict

Worth a look if you’re running a Chinese-centric or AI-heavy dev environment and want one throat to choke instead of five. Pass if you’re already happy with Artifactory Cloud or need bulletproof English docs and support.
