Gemini's free web app, smuggled out as an OpenAI-compatible API
A single Go binary that reverse-proxies gemini.google.com's browser protocol into /v1/chat/completions — no Google API key, no paid quota.
What it does
It speaks the Gemini web protocol — the one your browser uses — and repackages it as an OpenAI-shaped API. Point any OpenAI-compatible client (Cherry Studio, Open WebUI, dify, Cursor, newapi) at it and you get gemini-3.6-flash and friends through /v1/chat/completions, with real token-by-token streaming. It also exposes /v1/videos for async video generation and an MCP server at /mcp that turns Gemini’s web search into a web_search tool for Claude Desktop and friends.
The interesting bit
This is not a wrapper around Google’s official API — it’s a full impersonation of the browser session: a real Chrome 146 TLS fingerprint via utls, a cookie pool that auto-renews __Secure-1PSIDTS and keeps accounts alive every 10 minutes, and a proxy pool where each proxy is its own rate-limit slot. The engineering effort went into not getting blocked, which is the honest hard part of web2api projects.
Key highlights
- Anonymous mode works out of the box for flash models; Pro and thinking variants need imported Google cookies
- Cookie pool rotates accounts least-recently-used-first, and each account sticks to its own egress IP
- Admin dashboard (single embedded HTML, no CDN) with request logs, proxy/cookie management, and live config
- SQLite by default, MySQL/PostgreSQL optional; prompts and responses are never stored — only metadata
- Responses record which model the server actually used, so silent downgrades are visible
Caveats
- Built on a reverse-engineered, undocumented protocol — Google can break it or ban accounts at any time
gemini-3.8-flashand video generation require a paid Gemini account’s cookies; free accounts get silently downgraded to 3.5 Flash-Lite- Gemini CLI won’t work — it expects Google’s native
/v1betaendpoints, which aren’t implemented
Verdict If you want free Gemini access through the OpenAI ecosystem you already run, this is one of the more battle-hardened web2api implementations out there. If you need something stable and sanctioned, pay for the real API — this is a cat-and-mouse arrangement by nature.
