A Claude Code plugin that makes you do the thinking
VibeWise inserts design checkpoints between you and the code, so AI writes only what you actually understood and approved.
What it does
VibeWise is a Claude Code plugin that restructures AI-assisted coding into a teaching loop. Before Claude writes anything, it asks how you would approach the problem, walks through tradeoffs, and records your design decisions. Only at an Implementation checkpoint — your explicit go-ahead — does it write code, followed by a report of what changed, why, and which tests ran.
The interesting bit
The checkpoint system is the whole trick: Build checkpoints make you reason about behavior, Design checkpoints record decisions without writing code, and Implementation checkpoints gate the actual edits. A feature preference never silently approves an architecture — the plugin forces the distinction.
Key highlights
- Three checkpoint types (Build, Design, Implementation), each with a Discuss option before you commit
- Adapts teaching style to beginner/intermediate/advanced — everyone still reasons first
- Learning notes, preferences, and a project map persist in
.vibe-wise/and survive session restarts and compaction - Works on existing repos too: Claude inspects the code first and sketches a system map
- No extra account, backend, or telemetry; only Python 3 with no additional packages
Caveats
- Requires an up-to-date Claude Code — the plugin is glue over it, not a standalone tool
- Saved learning notes are injected into Claude’s context, so context size is a real constraint on long projects
Verdict
Worth trying if you’re learning a stack or want to stay genuinely accountable for design decisions while vibing. Skip it if you just want code fast — the checkpoints are the point, and they will slow you down on purpose.
