Hermes keeps its core lean and ships the fun stuff as plugins
Nous Research's official plugin repo gives its self-improving agent Spotify, Home Assistant, encrypted X DMs, and even your Claude subscription as a model backend.

What it does
This is the first-party plugin collection for Hermes Agent, Nous Research’s self-improving AI agent. Each directory is one integration — Home Assistant, Spotify, Blender, Snyk, Langfuse, and a dozen more — installable from a reviewed catalog where every entry is pinned to a specific reviewed commit. The idea is architectural: the Hermes core keeps the agent loop, memory, skills and model routing, while anything vendor- or hobby-specific lives at the edges and ships on its own schedule.
The interesting bit
The Claude Subscription DirectSDK plugin is the standout: it drives the logged-in claude binary as a model client, so Hermes turns run on your Claude Pro/Max subscription with no API key and no per-token bill — Hermes keeps its own agent loop, tools and approvals. Also notable: X Chat runs Hermes inside end-to-end encrypted X DMs, with X only ever routing ciphertext.
Key highlights
- Catalog entries are pinned to reviewed commits — updates only move you when a new pin passes review
- Home Assistant plugin watches the event bus, controls devices, and can deliver cron output as notifications
- Agent Importers pulls in OpenClaw, Claude Code, Codex CLI or Cursor setups in one command, with a preview first
- Singularity/Apptainer backend for HPC clusters and shared machines where Docker isn’t an option
- Langfuse traces every turn with per-call cost, including cache and reasoning tokens
Caveats
- Claude Subscription DirectSDK is explicitly experimental
- Several plugins are thin glue around third-party MCP servers (Blender, Snyk, REA, TouchDesigner) — the value is the curation and pinning, not novel code
- Spotify playback control requires Premium; REA’s native decompilation needs your own Ghidra/Hopper/IDA
Verdict
Worth a look if you already run Hermes Agent — or want a tidy example of how to split an agent into a lean core plus reviewed, independently-shipped edges. If you’re not in the Hermes ecosystem, this repo is mostly a catalog to browse from afar.
