A menu bar app that tells you when you're about to hit the Claude wall

What it does

A native SwiftUI menu bar app that tracks your Claude Pro/Max/Team usage in real time, with color-coded percentages, a popover dashboard, desktop widgets, and a floating overlay showing your live Claude Code sessions. It also mines Claude Code’s local logs for history: token usage stacked by model, project rankings, session counts, and cache hit rates across 24h to 90d.

The interesting bit

The privacy story is unusually honest. Anthropic offers no third-party OAuth flow, so TokenEater reads the OAuth token Claude Code already stores in your Keychain — and uses it for exactly two read-only API calls (usage and profile). The relevant code is short and auditable, and the author explicitly promises to adopt scoped tokens if Anthropic ever ships them.

Caveats

• Requires a Claude Pro, Max, or Team plan; the free plan exposes no usage data.
• The OAuth token can hit its own per-token rate limit, requiring a fresh claude /login to recover.
• macOS 14+ only, and the keychain authorization prompt on first run may startle the unprepared.

Verdict

If you run Claude Code daily on a paid plan and keep getting surprised by limits, this is a well-built, privacy-respecting fix. Linux and Windows users, or free-plan folks, are simply out of scope.
