A subtitle tool that actually lives in your NLE

What it does

AutoSubs is a desktop app that transcribes audio and video locally using open-source speech models, then injects the results straight into your editing timeline. It runs standalone for SRT export, or hooks into DaVinci Resolve via scripting and Adobe apps via a bundled CEP extension. Speaker diarization, translation, and per-word timing are all included.

The interesting bit

Most transcription tools hand you a file and wish you luck importing it. AutoSubs treats the NLE as a first-class citizen: Resolve gets marker-based word timing and animated caption macros; Premiere gets native caption tracks; After Effects gets text layers. The CLI mode (autosubs file.mp4 --model small -o subs.srt) is quietly practical for batch pipelines or AI-agent workflows.

Verdict

Video editors tired of cloud transcription subscriptions and janky SRT imports should grab this. Pure audio engineers or server-only workflows probably don’t need the GUI and Adobe glue.
