Your Meta Glasses' secret AI channel is a Messenger group chat

Because Meta won't let your glasses message ChatGPT directly, this extension turns a dummy Messenger group chat into a voice-activated AI proxy.

What it does

Mai is a browser extension that monitors a Messenger group chat from an alternate Facebook account and proxies messages to AI providers like OpenAI, Claude, or Perplexity. When a user tells Meta Ray-Ban Smart Glasses to “send a message to ChatGPT,” the glasses post to the chat; the extension intercepts the text, forwards it to the chosen LLM, and posts the reply. It can also process images and screenshots from video calls through the same pipeline.

The interesting bit

The extension piggybacks on Meta’s existing voice-to-Messenger pipeline by spoofing a contact: a group chat is renamed after an AI bot, an alt account is given a matching nickname, and the Meta View app is nudged to resync so the glasses recognize the fake contact as a valid voice target. It is essentially a man-in-the-middle attack on your own social graph.

Key highlights

  • Routes voice commands from Meta Glasses to ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, or other providers via Messenger.
  • Processes photos and video-call screenshots through your chosen LLM.
  • Optional OpenAI text-to-speech generates audio replies sent back through Messenger.
  • Runs fully in the browser; the only external dependencies are the AI APIs themselves.
  • Explicitly labeled “hacky” by its own author.

Caveats

  • Requires an alternate Facebook account and a carefully groomed group chat to spoof a contact.
  • Relies on resyncing the Meta View app, which feels fragile and could break if Meta changes contact discovery.
  • The author calls it a pseudo-API and hopes Meta eventually releases a real SDK.

Verdict

Grab it if you own Meta Ray-Bans and want voice-activated LLMs today without waiting for official support. Skip it if you expect polished, first-party integrations or don’t want to manage a second Facebook identity.
