A voice recorder that refuses to be the middleman
Nomily AI is a BYOK recording companion: your hardware, your API keys, your choice of ASR and LLM — nothing routed through someone else's cloud.

What it does Nomily AI is a native voice-recording companion for iOS/Apple Watch (SwiftUI) and Android (Jetpack Compose). It pulls recordings from a V05E BLE recorder or the Apple Watch, keeps a local library, transcribes via Azure Speech or a self-run faster-whisper-compatible endpoint, and then sends the transcript to whatever LLM you configure — OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, OpenRouter, Ollama, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint — for summaries, titles, and translations.
The interesting bit
The BYOK stance is unusually honest: the README explicitly says this is not a hosted service, not a shared cloud, and that local ASR plus Ollama is a provider integration, not a claim of full self-hosting. There’s even a reference local ASR server implementing the app’s exact contract (WebSocket on 12300, HTTP on 12301), so you can run transcription and summarization entirely on your own LAN.
Key highlights
- Native clients per platform — no cross-platform wrapper; the actual code lives in
nomily-iosandnomily-android, this repo is the entry point - Speaker diarization for up to 10 speakers when Azure Speech is the ASR provider
- Apple Watch records standalone and syncs to the paired iPhone for transcription
- Source-available licence with an App Store listing and a direct Android APK (Google Play review pending)
- Refreshingly explicit device compatibility matrix — TicNote NE-79 support is marked as in-progress, not shipped
Caveats
- Hardware support is narrow: V05E is the primary recorder, and compatibility “still depends on the actual device and firmware under test”
- No Wear OS companion, and RAG/MCP/self-hosted sync are explicitly not announced capabilities
- The local-services setup is advanced territory; the README warns the LAN-exposed Ollama setup adds no authentication
Verdict Worth a look if you already own a V05E recorder (or record on Apple Watch) and want transcripts and summaries without renting your data to a transcription startup. If you were hoping for a generic recorder app or a turnkey self-hosted stack, this isn’t that — and it says so itself.
