Snowboy is a hotword detection library originally developed by KITT.AI that uses deep neural network models to recognize custom trigger words in audio. The library runs locally on-device with low latency and was designed for integration with voice assistants. It supports custom hotword model training and integrates with the Alexa AVS SDK on Raspberry Pi. The project has been sunsetted but remains open source for community use.
